If you’re reading this article before building your own website, you’re lucky. However, if you have built a website that is not responsive and want to know if it is really affecting your business, this short article will also help you.

I am a huge fan of responsive web design. I fell in love with the term even before I could explain what it means. You’re probably asking yourself (WHAT and WHY), I will break it down, and provide some images for you to understand better.

What is responsive web design?

If you’ve been shopping around some of the many Los Angeles web design companies, then you’ve heard the term Responsive web design… Responsive web design is the process of creating a website that displays properly in all screen resolutions without manual adjustment of the pages. I have provided some images below to explain what I mean by manual adjustment.

The above screenshots was taken from a non-responsive website. The first image is the desktop view, and the second image is the Smartphone view. If the website is viewed on a desktop or laptop computer, it will display properly and all the menus would be visible. However, if the website is viewed in a Smartphone or smaller devices (image 2); the webpage does not adjust to fit the screen of the device.

In this case, the user has to manually navigate to the right in order to see the hidden information. In some cases, the words become too small for the user to read, hence, the need for zooming out is important.

In a responsive website, the Web Pages and the text will appear great on all screen resolutions. The screenshots below was taken from a responsive website both on Smartphone and laptop.

No matter the device used to browse the website, it will automatically adjust to fit the screen. The user doesn’t need to zoom or navigate to the left in order to see the full contents. In the image below, the menu and other information on the header have adjusted to the screen of the Smartphone.
